I recently attended the TechTogether Boston hackathon and built a Chrome extension that displays a company’s employee diversity information. My teammates and I built this tool after noticing that company diversity statistics are very relevant, but inaccessible, to minorities in tech. We wanted to make this information readily available to those browsing a company’s site, both to help job seekers and to keep companies accountable.

We used d3pie.js to make the pie charts and Microsoft Azure’s Bing News search API to collect the top news articles related to companies. I was specifically responsible for the Javascript backend of the extension. Our project won TechTogether’s Best Gender Equality Hack and the Spark! Best Inclusion in Tech Hack awards.
